Yeaaah, we've finally found the time and went to the Kuks Hospital. This baroque jewel tempted me for a long time, not only because of the new cycling path from Hradec Kralove to Kuks. The path is very easy, goes along the Elbe river and has 26 kilometers.
We started in Jaromer. We reached Kuks in half an hour, it was only 8km. When we saw the Kuks Hospital, the first thing, we thought of, was, how huge it is. And gorgeous. Ella did not want to accept the fact that the Kuks Hospital is not a chateau, that Sir Spork planned to build a hospital for war veterans on one side of the Elbe river and a spa on the other. It is quite sad, that the plan hasn´t ever been realized.
The monumental Baroque sculptures of Virtues and Vices by Matthias Bernard Braun, beautiful garden and a guided tour about Pharmacies´ History meant that we stayed much longer than we planned. But Ella simply refused to leave without knowing, how pills were manufactured, stored and packaged.
From the Kuks Hospital we continued to Braun's Nativity, a natural park with a gallery of Baroque sculptures depicting Biblical scenes. The Calvary of the 21st Century lined with statues starts 3km from the Kuks Hospital. We chose the shortcut, but it was so steep that we had to push our bikes to the top.
Plan was to continue to Vestec, Nouzov, Velichovky and back to Jaromer, but there was no time. So we returned the same way. This short escape from the daily stereotype was simply amazing, go and try it!
