I always look forward to the Cote d'Azur! Even if it's only for a while. Ella was five months when I visited the south of France for the first time. Michal had a training camp there, so we joined him. We drove a car overnight. It was a long journey! It took us fourteen hours. After arriving at our apartment, we both were exhausted but Ella was awaken as she slept the whole journey. I decided not to travel like this again. Now, Michal drives, me and Ella fly and he picks us at the airport in Nice.
Cannes, St. Tropez and especially St. Maxime are all places closest to my heart. Every time I was excited about walks through the narrow streets with cafes, shops and delicious ice cream. Chilling along the beach, where Ella tasted the sand for the first time, a year later she made sand cakes and a year later sand castles. These are all memories that noone will never take me.
Nice, however, we have visited for the first time. Actually, I do not know why we always missed it. You can get easily in the city center by car and find the place in underground parking garages to leave it. But you don´t have to have a van, there is a problem with the height limit in the garages. Then you have to look for some spot on the street and it takes some time.
Finally, we parked our van near the Basilica of Notre-Dame de I'ssomption and walked along the Avenue Jean Medecin. We stopped at the fountain at the Place Massena and watched the water. On Sunday there were cycling race Nice - Paris held, so there was a depot at the square and promenade along the sea was fenced and very guarded. We had to go through a metal detector and our belongings were checked.
The sun went down and the wind started to blow, but Ella didn´t mind. She was excited for bubbles and didn´t want to walk anymore. She forgive us when she could ride on the amazing carousel. A great experience for her was to see trees full of oranges as well.
After this short walk, we decided to go back to the car and continue to the Italian Finale Ligure that is from Nice about an hour and a half drive. I'm glad, we took the time and have seen a small part of this big city. And that's it. BIG. Nice for me is too impersonal, although at first glance very nice city. It does not send me any energy at all. I´m going to love St. Maxime and St. Tropez forever.
